This TV short was directed by Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass in 1972. Based on the 1812 novel by Johann David Wyss, Swiss Family Robinson is a part of the animated series, Festival of Family Classics.

Part of the animated anthology series 'Festival of Family Classics' by Rankin/Bass Productions, this adaptation follows a blonde, pig-tailed Alice as she visits the bewildering world of Wonderland. Alice encounters a host of characters including the blue Caterpillar, Mad Hatter, March Hare, Cheshire Cat, the Dormouse, who looks and sounds like a punch-drunk fighter, and the Red Queen, who uses a flamingo for a croquet mallet.

A WGN channel 9 Chicago show that the whole family can watch. Family Classics featured good wholesome movies. Premiered on September 14, 1962. Originally broadcast on Friday evenings with host . Was later moved to Sunday afternoons. Frazier personally picked which movies would be shown. He also oversaw the editing of each film for the show. When Frazier suddenly passed away in 1985. became the host. Family Classics had a regular run up until December 25, 2000. At that point Family Classics was no longer on the air. In 2017 Family Classics was brought back with a special Christmas time showing of Scrooge (1951) hosted by . Since then WGN has been having Family Classics broadcast for special occasions. Usually with Dean Richards as host, but more recently with as the host.

William Tell is summoned into town to plead on the behalf of his jailed son, Christian. On his way he falls into an ice cave and in his unconscious state is given 3 arrows by an ice warrior; one for truth, one deceit and one to gain nothing. When Tell refuses to bow to the evil Governor's hat, the irate Governor declines to release his son unless Tell shoots an apple from Christian's head. Tell aims and fires a perfect shot and insults the Governor for which he himself is jailed along with his son,. The governor attempts to transfer Tell to a special dungeon and on the way Tell escapes, killing the Governor with the deceit arrow. As Tell rushes to free his son, he comes across the coach carrying the fleeing Lady Margaret, evil Mistress of the Governor's court. Realizing that this last arrow would gain him nothing, he spares her life and instead gives her the arrow. She departs in peace.
